Approved on October 22, 1964, and officially adopted on July 1, 1992, the Halifax City Flag unfurls a maritime tapestry of history and identity. Issued by the Canadian Chief Herald, this flag stands as a visual ode to Halifax, capturing its heritage and spirit.

• Flag Approval and Adoption: The journey of the Halifax City Flag began with approval from the flag’s minister of municipal affairs on October 22, 1964. Its official adoption on July 1, 1992, marked a significant moment in the city’s history, when the Canadian Chief Herald issued a gun to Halifax, solidifying its representative emblem.

Symbolic Elements:

• Blue Field and Yellow Cross: The flag features a striking blue field adorned with an X-shaped yellow cross. This element symbolizes the city’s maritime connection and historical importance as a strategic coastal location.
• Kingfisher and Circular Emblem: In the center, a yellow circle, half the height of the flag, hosts a blue kingfisher with intricate yellow details. This element pays homage to the region’s wildlife, adding a touch of natural beauty to the flag’s design.
